RAM Wants a Midsize Pickup Truck

2025-01-15

What do Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Nissan, and even Toyota have in common that RAM doesn’t? RAM remains the only manufacturer that does not currently offer a midsize pickup truck in North America. Sure, there’s the Gladiator, but that belongs to the Jeep brand.

This question has been raised with the American manufacturer for quite some time now. Although no clear answer has been given, the brand has previously suggested that the RAM 1500 Classic essentially filled that role. The 1500 Classic was quite popular, but it won’t be part of the lineup for 2025, prompting this question once again.

The Opinion of RAM’s President

Tim Kuniskis recently stated in an interview with Motor 1 that he “definitely wants a midsize truck in the RAM lineup.” According to the top executive of the American brand, trucks are becoming increasingly expensive, and introducing a midsize pickup would help RAM better position itself in the market.

The Right Timing

Now that the RAM 1500 Classic is no longer available and the new generation of the RAM 1500 is entering the market, the timing is absolutely perfect for the American manufacturer to add a midsize pickup to its North American lineup. Even RAM’s president acknowledged this, noting that “the absence of a more affordable truck in the RAM lineup is an obvious issue.”

A Global Perspective

Ironically, RAM already offers several midsize pickups in other parts of the world. For instance, RAM sells the 700 and 1200 trucks in markets like Mexico. In Brazil, there’s a model called the Rampage, which aligns perfectly with what many North American customers envision for a midsize RAM pickup.

In my opinion, it’s only a matter of time before a midsize truck joins RAM’s lineup in North America. When it does, it’s almost certain to be a big hit. Some rumors even suggest that such a truck might arrive in North America before RAM’s electric pickup.
