Dodge Discontinues Grand Caravan and Journey, Introduces the Hellcat

2021 is a year of change for Dodge. Two main staples of the Dodge line-up--the Grand Caravan and Journey--are being discontinued. In addition, Dodge is introducing the new Durango SRT Hellcat to the line-up. These big changes are for the best as Dodge focuses more on performance and a smaller model line-up of high-quality vehicles instead of being overextended.

Durango Hellcat Performance Review

The 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat is one heck of a rollercoaster ride. It is powered by the supercharged 6.2-litre V-8 Hellcat engine, which provides 710 horsepower, 645 lb-ft of torque, and towing capability of up to almost 4,000 kg. The Durango Hellcat can supposedly go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds, but it also offers three rows of seating to accommodate family and friends alike.

Durango Hellcat Interior

The Durango Hellcat is a driver's car, so it has a driver-centric layout similar to those found on Dodge's other performance cars--the Dodge Charger and Challenger. The flat-bottomed steering wheel includes a pair of paddle shifters for extra zip, and red accents are found throughout the cabin.

Dodge's latest Uconnect 5 multimedia centre is featured in the Durango Hellcat with a large 10.1-inch touchscreen that includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Wi-Fi hotspot, and Amazon Alexa functionality. With a third row that folds flat when not in use, the Durango Hellcat offers a great deal of cargo space for every day errands or annual vacations.

Grand Caravan and Journey Discontinued

With the elimination of the Grand Caravan and Journey, Dodge eliminates 40% of its lineup. While popular when first introduced, the Grand Caravan and Journey remained relatively unchanged since 2008. This lack of attention resulted in decreasing sales and eventually complete elimination after the 2019 model year.

However, that does not mean that Dodge is going anywhere. With laser focus now on its remaining models, Dodge can produce new and innovative configurations, such as the new Durango Hellcat. For drivers wanting power, cargo space, passenger space, and maximum towing capability in an SUV, the Durango Hellcat is a vehicle to consider.
